BELGIAN ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY V.V.S. - Working Group Variable Stars Cataclysmic Variables Circular No.75 1995, December 25 Ed.: T. Vanmunster, Walhostraat 1A, 3401 Landen, BELGIUM Internet: tvanmuns@innet.be TEL. 32-11-831504 -------------------------------------------------------------- The CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES Home Page: hht://www.cv.psi.edu =================================================================== V701 Tau [UG:, 15.0p - <21p] ============================ Tonny Vanmunster, Landen, Belgium reports an outburst detection of this poorly studied object, which is listed as a possible UG-type cataclysmic variable in "A Catalog and Atlas of Cataclysmic Variables" (Downes & Shara, 1993). Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK and Eric Broens, Mol, Belgium have confirmed the observation. 1995 Dec 24.951 UT, [14.6: (T. Vanmunster, 0.35-m refl., seq: GSC); Dec 25.847 UT, 14.5 (T. Vanmunster); Dec 25.866 UT, 14.5 (G. Poyner, 0.40-m refl., seq: GSC); Dec 25.951 UT, 14.4 (T. Vanmunster); Dec 25.983 UT, 14.1 (E. Broens, 0.35-m refl., seq: GSC); V701 Tau is an object of which only very little information is available. (Downes and Shara, 1993) present a finding chart, but they indicate that the coordinates of the object are approximate, since the star was at/below the plate limit. No previous outburst observations are listed in the "Outburst Activity Database" (Vanmunster and Howell, 1995). V701 Tau is included in the list of possible TOADs (Howell). We have prepared finding charts for V701 Tau, which are available on-line at the Cataclysmic Variables Home Page. The charts use the position indicated in the above mentioned atlas. They have been prepared using the GSC, and magnitudes of comparison stars are taken from that same source. Tonny Vanmunster
