V1316 Cyg [UGSU:, 14.5p - <17.5p]

Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK reports his outburst detection of 
V1316 Cyg, a dwarf nova which recently has been added to the
TA/BAAVSS Recurrent Objects Programme. His observation has been
confirmed by Tonny Vanmunster, Center for Backyard Astrophysics
(CBA) Belgium :

1996 Apr. 22.021 UT, [14.9    (G. Poyner, 0.40-m refl.);
     Apr. 27.052 UT,  14.7    (G. Poyner);
     Apr. 27.092 UT,  14.6    (G. Poyner);
     Apr. 28.035 UT,  14.7    (G; Poyner);
     Apr. 29.919 UT,  14.7 CU (T. Vanmunster, CBA Belgium, 0.25-m
                               SCT, unfiltered CCD image);
     Apr. 30.028 UT,  14.9    (G. Poyner);


V1316 Cyg is classified as a possible SU UMa-type dwarf nova. It
therefore might be interesting to look for superhump developments
in the present outburst.

According to the Outburst Activity Data on Selected Cataclysmic
Variables, V1316 Cyg was last observed in outburst on December 22,
1995 (the object appears as a mag 14.3 star on a VSNET sequence,
made by Taichi Kato, Ouda Station, Japan).

In [1], Bruch and Schimpke describe spectroscopic observations of
V1316 Cyg : "V1316 Cyg was discovered by Romano as an irregular
variable. Later, he revised the classification and assigned the star
to the dwarf novae. He observed a total of 3 outbursts and suspects
a cycle length of more than 100 days ... At the epoch of our
observations, the system was undergoing an outburst. The spectrum ...
is typical for an erupting dwarf nova. On a strong blue continuum
Balmer emission lines with a steep decrement are seen, the higher
serial numbers being superimposed upon broad absorption troughs ...".

V1316 Cyg is furthermore included in the Steve Howell's list of
possible TOAD objects.
